The workday accounts for a significant portion of most workers' weeks. That means you might see your co-workers almost as much as your family. Since work may be your home away from home, why not add a little fun to the day to help make it more enjoyable? Happy workers may be more productive workers, so if you are looking for a way to boost your spirits at work, here are a few tips to help you get started.

1. Make the Office an Enjoyable Place To Be

While being professional is important to any business, adding some personalization and fun touches around the office is a great way to make the environment more relaxing and improve your mood. Decorate your space with personal items such as family and vacation pictures, cards and small decorative items. You might even consider posting positive quotes or uplifting pictures in shared spaces such as bulletin boards.

2. Do Not Be Afraid To Celebrate

Whether you celebrate your monthly quota, someone's work anniversary or another employee's birthday, do not be afraid to organize a small event for a break or lunch. Bring a cake, some balloons, a card, doughnuts or everyone's favorite coffee and take a moment to mark the occasion.

3. Participate in Work Events

If your company hosts work events during or after hours or has events such as funny hat day, participating is a great way to have some fun and get to know your co-workers. By attending these events, you may learn more about your colleagues and may even develop friendships that make your workday a little more enjoyable.

4. Come Up With Contests

If you are a manager or supervisor, you might want to develop some games or contests that focus on the company's goals and values. These events are often great motivators for employees to work harder toward the company goals and make the process more fun. Make competitions for more serious purposes, such as quotas, and provide awards or small prizes for those who top the list. You also could make games that are more on the lighter side, such as giving awards for the cleanest or most creative office space.
